If you want to be seen, heard and remembered you are in charge of the impact your image is making on your viewer. You have 8-12 seconds to make an impression. A positive impression will allow you to be heard with your content you want to share with others and their opinion is important if they will recommend you or not or if they will return to hear more of what you are sharing.

If you are consistent at presenting yourself they will see you as more credible and be more willing to listen to what you have to say. You may not get to share with them if you are inconsistent so it is important for you to be sure you present yourself in a similar way each time you get dressed.

If you look fantastic one day and ho hum the next day people will wonder who you are the fantastic person or the ho hum person. Those decisions will make a difference in the way they respond to us and even in their decisions to do business with us if we are in business or provide services to others.

Planning ahead for the types of garments we are wearing and how we are putting our looks together are important decisions. Having the clothing in good repair is also important. While activities and events will influence what we wear the primary goal is to remain consistent to the style we have developed for ourselves.

When you meet someone, there is about an 8-12 second period of time while decisions are being made about who you are and whether you are who you say you are. The saying “You never have a second chance to make a good first impression” is true.

That impression formed on your first meeting with another person, continues to influence your relationship with the person. You can overcome decisions that are not favorable to you but it does take a great deal of time and energy. Unfortunately, sometimes it is not something you can change and their opinion remains as the first one they had of you.

Proportion and fit influence the overall effect of the image of the clothing the most. Color changes with fashion and what is popular at the time so when finding the colors that appeal in clothing there might be several seasons between choices if the color you like is not in fashion at the time you are shopping for new items. Being comfortable with the color and style choices, regardless of what is popular in fashion, allows you to build a wardrobe that is functional and what I call a working wardrobe rather than a hanging wardrobe.

The weight of the fabric the clothing is made out of influences how warm the garments will be and different fibers also influence the warmth. Think about what your body temperature is and what fabrics feel the most comfortable to you. Some people have difficulty with wool and it itching when touching the skin. Interestingly enough, it can be the way the the fibers are woven or spun that cause the itching.

Of all of the things that contribute to the appearance of a garment on a person, the placement of the clothing is by far what makes the most impact in creating the finished impression that the garment makes as you are wearing it. The eye moves in a specific pattern as it scans and if the garments and accessories are placed on the body so the face is the place the eye rests, people will remember you and not what you are wearing. It is what should have the highest importance when selecting clothing.

From research, we know that less than 30% of the clothing in your closet is actively worn. Most of the items in that unworn category are the wrong size, need repairs or do not look great on us. There is an easy solution to the 70+% screaming out pick me, pick me when you open the closet door.

A simple dressing system will have you on track in no time and will show you what items to keep and which items to help find a new home. Your closet rod will thank you when the excess weight from all of those unworn items is reduced and you will be happier opening the closet door.

Think about the activities that you will need clothing for in the next 3 months. Check your closet for what you currently have that fits and is in good repair. Then apply your Body:Gram Fashion Tool information to those items you want to keep in your wardrobe to be sure all of the details are in the right place to show off your proportion to the best advantage.

Most people only wear only 20-30% of their clothing so, in my experience, the other 70-80% is putting the clothing detail length or emphasis on their body in the wrong place or does not fit.

How cool would it be if you were able to shop in your closet and come up with a majority of that 70-80% working for you. Working wardrobes are always better than hanging wardrobes and what you then add will give your closet extra combinations so you will feel like you have a whole new wardrobe.

You know the clothing items, style, colors, accessories and lifestyle needs that are appropriate for your personal and business wardrobe needs. Occasionally, you may need the input from an expert on visual image to assist you in carrying your styles throughout all the areas of your life.

Consistency in your visual image creates visual credibility. Having visual credibility allows people to connect with you. It also allows you to be more selective in your clothing and accessory purchases. You can determine quickly if the item you are looking at is a match or a mismatch.

A combination of all of the areas of interest you have and all of the things in your life you do, will assist you in determining your own personal style. Have clothing that is appropriate for every area so when you want to participate in that activity you will have a choice of clothing to wear.

In every area of our life, we do business with people, companies and industries that have a consistent image. That is why so much effort is placed on communicating consistency. It is called Brand marketing and works as well for a product as it does for a person.

Evaluate your own personal image to see if you are consistent in every area of your dressing. Make adjustments as necessary, so that from casual out to formal you present a good impression each time. Once you establish your look, it is easy to add new items to your wardrobe. Your key when shopping is consistency with your established image.

Another way to think of this, is if you have a bowl of apples (your image preference) and you place an orange on top of the bowl you are immediately aware something is different. Use this same idea as you are shopping for new items of clothing to add to your wardrobe. Is the new item a match, in our example above an apple, or a mismatch, as in our example above, an orange. With a small amount of practice adding items to your wardrobe will become very easy and fun.
